What happens during a skin consultation at Fairy Fixes?
Your consultation is an opportunity to talk about your skin, your concerns and what you would like to achieve. I’ll assess your skin, discuss your medical history and current skincare routine, and explain which treatments may be suitable for you. Where appropriate, we can look at a combination of professional treatments and home skincare. My aim is always to create a personalised plan that enhances your natural appearance rather than changing it.
Are all treatments carried out by a qualified medical professional?
Yes. At Fairy Fixes, treatments are carried out by a registered nurse and independent prescriber with over 30 years of NHS experience and more than a decade of experience in aesthetic nursing. Your safety, wellbeing and treatment outcomes are always at the heart of my approach. I only recommend treatments that are appropriate for you following a thorough consultation.
Which treatments are best for menopausal skin?
Menopause can bring changes such as dryness, reduced elasticity, fine lines, pigmentation and a loss of skin firmness. There isn't one treatment that is best for everyone. Depending on your skin and goals, options may include skin boosters, polynucleotides, microneedling, chemical peels, LED phototherapy and appropriate medical-grade skincare. During your consultation, I can recommend a treatment plan tailored to your individual needs.
What is the best treatment for sagging skin?
The most appropriate treatment depends on why the skin is appearing less firm and how much volume or elasticity has been lost. Treatments such as collagen-stimulating procedures, skin boosters, polynucleotides and microneedling may help improve skin quality and firmness. Where volume loss is contributing to an aged appearance, carefully placed dermal filler may also be considered. For more significant skin laxity, non-surgical treatments have limitations, and I will always be honest about what treatment can realistically achieve.
Can collagen stimulation treatments improve mature skin?
Yes. As we age, collagen production naturally decreases, contributing to changes in firmness, elasticity and texture. Treatments designed to stimulate collagen can support the skin's natural regenerative processes and may improve the appearance of fine lines, texture and firmness over time. Results are gradual and vary between individuals, so a course of treatment may be recommended rather than expecting an immediate transformation.
What areas can be treated with wrinkle-relaxing injections?
Wrinkle-relaxing injections can be used to soften certain expression lines, commonly including lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows and around the eyes. Depending on your individual anatomy and suitability, other areas may also be considered. The aim is to soften unwanted lines while maintaining natural facial movement and expression.
What is the difference between fillers and skin boosters?
Dermal fillers are primarily used to restore or enhance volume and can help address areas such as cheeks, lips or areas affected by age-related volume loss. They can also be used strategically to support facial contours. Skin boosters, on the other hand, are designed primarily to improve skin quality rather than add significant volume. They can help improve hydration, smoothness and overall skin appearance. The right option depends on whether your main concern is volume, structure or skin quality and sometimes a combination of approaches may be appropriate.
What can microneedling improve?
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to stimulate the body's natural healing response. It can help improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven texture, enlarged pores, acne scarring and some pigmentation concerns. It can also support collagen production and leave the skin looking smoother and more refined. A course of treatments is often recommended for best results.
Which treatments can help rosacea?
Rosacea can be complex, and treatment needs to be tailored carefully to your skin. Gentle skincare, appropriate LED phototherapy and certain professional treatments may be beneficial for some people. However, treatments that cause significant heat, inflammation or irritation aren't suitable for everyone with rosacea. During your consultation, I'll assess your skin and discuss appropriate options, and where necessary recommend that you seek advice from your GP or dermatologist.
What skincare products do you recommend for mature skin?
There isn't one skincare routine that works for everyone. Mature skin often benefits from a gentle cleanser, hydrating moisturiser and daily broad-spectrum SPF, with carefully selected active ingredients depending on your concerns. Ingredients such as retinoids, vitamin C and selected exfoliating acids can be useful for some people, but they need to be introduced appropriately, particularly if your skin is dry or sensitive. At Fairy Fixes, I can help you simplify your routine and choose products that complement your professional treatments rather than overwhelming your skin.
